HEAD TRAINER BOB MCGEEHAN
Bob McGeehan has been involved with boxing since he was a teenager. He was first
introduced to the sport by his father, Bob Sr. The elder McGeehan was and accomplished boxer growing up in the
Camden area and continued his craft in the Marines during his time in Korea. Bob Jr. would watch his dad
work the bags in their garage to just stay in shape. Slowly, father began to teach son different combinations
and footwork. "Proper mechanics," he would say.
A chance meeting with former Philadelphia welterweight Frank Montgomery took Bob Jr. out of his garage
and into the James Shuler Memorial Gym. Montgomery continued Bob's boxing education at the gym as the
two became friends. From there, Bob joined Augie's Boxing Gym and learned a great deal.
Philadelphia legends Buster Drayton and Bobby "Boogaloo" Watts were always happy to share some advice.
"I learned so much at Augie's. The guys there were great and very approachable." He then began to blaze his
own trail by joining R&B Fitness in September of 2002, where he took over a boxing program that was very limited in its
numbers. At the time, there were just three students in the class. Over the last two years the class size has
multiplied to approximately twenty students.
Bob made his pro debut as a trainer serving as Paul Caputi's second in November of 2003. Caputi scored a
first round knockout victory that night. Caputi introduced Dasine Asberry to Bob at about the same time.
Asberry, who was 0-1, had an upcoming fight and requested Bob's services. After a few weeks working
together, the two meshed very well and formed a strong bond. On February 28th, 2003, Dasine scored an
impressive first round knockout victory over Philly's Mike New. "It was such a thrill to see all of Dasine's hard
work had paid off. We trained together for six long weeks. It was kind of long for a four round fight, but he
needed to be prepared," McGeehan said.
Bob continues to train not only Dasine, but also boxers Mike Catalano and Gabriel Maldanodo. In addition,
he is affiliated with USA Amateur Boxing and is a licensed coach. Bob also holds license as
"second" with the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission.
