Dream Looks To Rebound In Next Bout
by Bill Kohut for DasineTheDream.com
In their much anticipated rematch, Dasine "The Dream" Asberry dropped a
four-round decision to Rami "The Arabian Nightmare" Ibraham on August 26 at World's Gym in
Northeast Philadelphia. The loss evened Asberry’s career mark to 3-3.
Both fighters came out cautious in the opening round of the lightweight bout,
but Asberry used good movement to slip and avoid Ibraham’s initial attack. Late in the round,
Asberry landed a straight left that stood Ibraham straight up and stopped him in his tracks.
However, Asberry did not finish off the combination and Ibraham survived the round.
Rounds two and three were almost identical with Irbaham pressing the fight
and stalking the elusive Asberry. Ibraham cornered Abserry a twice, but no major blows were
landed by either fighter. "You see that alot in rematches," commented promoter Joey "Eye"
Intrieri. "Their first fight was so physical and action packed. They gained a lot of respect
for each other and came out tentatively."
The fourth and final round saw the most action of the contest with each
fighter realizing that they needed that round for a decision. When it was all said and done,
the judges at ringside awarded Ibraham with the decision.
"It was a good fight in the respect that Dasine showed continued improvement
in his skills. In the last fight, he stood toe-to-toe with Rami for twelve minutes. In this
fight, he showed great head and lateral movement. However, some of that movement took away
from his offense," said the Dream's trainer Bob McGeehan.
"We have no excuses, Rami comes to fight. That doesn't mean that I am happy
or agree with the decision," stated Asberry. "Dasine has an extremely busy schedule right now
and it affected him in this fight," added McGeehan. "He is going to take a few months off,
but hopes to be back in the ring after the new year. Who knows, maybe we'll see Rami again.
I know Joey and the commission would like to see that fight."
The Dream Team again wished to thank Joey Eye for having them on the fight card
on this exciting night of boxing from the Northeast.
