by Bill Kohut for DasineTheDream.com Dasine Asberry's December 8th fight was canceled because his opponent did not make the required weight. Asberry, a junior welterweight, tipped the scales at 140 lbs and was deemed ready to fight by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission. His opponent did not fare as well, weighing in at 152 lbs. The Athletic Commission would not allow the fight to take place due to this. Though he spars with Gabriel Maldonado (154lbs) and Mike Catalano (165lbs), a potential non-commissioned fight for a much higher purse was turned down. "I liked my chances, but it was a team decision not to take the fight," said Asberry. "Dasine is anxious to get back in the ring and trained hard for this fight, but 12 pounds is a lot to give up," added trainer Bob McGeehan. Asberry hopes to be back in action in either late February or early March. |
